Welcome to Birchip

Birchip is the perfect place to stop for lunch on if you are traveling on the Sunraysia Highway. Birchip has a family friendly park in the centre of town near local eating houses and the famous Mallee Bull.

Birchip is a small rural town with a strong sense of community. It is home to the world renowned Birchip Cropping Group - a farmer-driven agricultural organisation conducting farmer driven applied research and extension on agricultural crops.

Birchip holds many annual events including the Birchip B & S ball, a Quarterhorse Race Meeting, Field days and expos along with many sporting events.


On the Birchip Wycheproof Road 8 kilometers east of Birchip lies the Tchum Lake system. The main lake holds approximately 900 megalitres of water and is a popular holiday spot for campers and water skiers. Enjoy swimming, boating, windsurfing, fishing, water skiing, walking tracks, BBQ's and camping.


Birchip is a the perfect place to stop for lunch on your way through to larger regional cities such as Mildura and Swan Hill. Birchip has a family friendly park right in the centre of town opposite the lunch spots. The park is fenced and children love playing on the green lawn. Best of all, in the warmer months, the local swimming pool is right next door!

The Birchip History Museum is located at the corner of the five way intersection in the old court house, built in 1914. It provides local history research, a large selection of cataloged photos, displays and collections.

  • Birchip Hotel

    The iconic Birchip Hotel was restored to its former glory in 2012 and now has 14 rooms to rent. The hotel serves meals and cold and hot drinks. A lovely beer garden has been established and there is ample parking at the rear of the hotel.

  • Birchip Motel and Caravan Park

    Situated on the Sunraysia Highway the Birchip Motel and Caravan Park offers the luxury of either motel accommodation or onsite vans as well as caravan and camping faculties. There is the option of meals to your room, a kiosk, petrol, diesel and gas fuel supplies, a Laundromat and gas cylinder filling.

  • Commercial Hotel

    Birchips Commercial Hotel is situated at the northern end of town a block after the main shopping precinct. Travellers can avail themselves of a cool drink and a meal in the spacious lounge. The hotel also offers a drive through bottle shop and TAB facilities.

  • Tchum Lake Camping

    Powered and non-powered sites are available at Tchum Lake.

There are facilities and clubs for bowls, golf, aero sports, harness racing, water sports at Tchum Lake, swimming, archery and hang gliding.


Local community groups, sporting clubs, school and the BCG host an interesting selection of events and functions throughout the year. They range from a B & S ball and a Quarterhorse Race Meeting to Field days and expos. These events attract visitors from all over Australia as does Tchum Lake, located 8 km east of Birchip.
