The track
The track climbs steadily from Troopers Creek campground through mixed eucalypt forest for the first 3km. The ridge proper begins at 3km — exposed sandstone walking with route markers. The summit traverse covers roughly 2km of ridge with two main bumps; you can stop at either.
The views
The ridge gives the most complete view of the western Grampians available outside a helicopter — Lake Wartook directly below, the Mt William range to the south, Mt Stapylton and the silo country to the north.
Safety
Long exposed ridge — turn back if weather changes. Carry full water. No mobile reception on the ridge. Tell someone your plan and ETA.
What to bring
3L water minimum, lunch, full rain shell, head torch, paper map (Parks Vic Grampians map).
