The track
The Eagle Track is one of the main walking-permitted routes in the Big Desert. Sand-track walking through mallee and stringybark; quiet, remote, exceptional bird country. Best done as a there-and-back rather than attempting longer loops.
What you see
Malleefowl mounds (do not approach — observe at distance). Emu, kangaroo, occasional black-eared cuckoo. Spring wildflowers August–October.
Safety
Remote, no mobile reception, no facilities. Tell someone your route and ETA. Carry 4L water in warmer months. No drinking water on track.
What to bring
4L water, paper map (Parks Vic Big Desert/Wyperfeld map), full rain shell, head torch, lunch, first-aid kit.
