Lake Hindmarsh — Victoria’s largest natural freshwater lake — has a 7km return shore hike from the Jeparit camping ground, through river red gums and along sandy beaches.

The walk
From the camping area, follow the lakeshore north. The track is informal in places but the shore is open enough to navigate. Red gums, sandy stretches, occasional fisherman.
What you see
The biggest natural freshwater lake in Victoria. When full, the lake supports significant bird life. Pelican rafts in season.

2L water, sun protection, swimwear (the lake is swimmable when full and warm).
